Attention!

attention icon.

How does God get your attention?  Does He quietly grab you in the calm of a new morning?  Does He speak through another person on a life issue?  Does He give you a ‘DeNozo’ (a tap on the head to say – – really?!)

Why does He need to get our attention?  In the day-to-day stuff of living we tend to start depending on ourselves to much and He needs to remind us who is really in control.  Through the phone ringing, dishes, laundry, taking the cat to the vet, mowing the lawn, waiting in line, daily issues He wants us to remember He is there.

So, then, how do we react?  Are we angry, irritated, grouchy, grumpy….  When these attention grabbing issues happen we often display whatever is in our hearts/minds at that point.  Proverbs 23:7 reminds us that what we think is who we are.  Jesus said in Luke 6:45 that a man speaks out of the nature of the heart.

Long Lines for the Bus

Do we consider these reminders of God’s control as a part of our daily joy?  James 1:2 says to consider it pure joy when we face trials of any kind.  Imagine what might happen if you’re having one of those days where the irritations start upon waking and just continue to pile up and you remember to ‘consider it pure joy’.  Would that change our behavior, demeanor, and attitude?  Hm-m-m-m-m–m-m

More than anything God wants us to become totally dependent on Him for every one of life’s issues.  He wants us to come to Him when we’re tired of the drama and the interruptions.  He is waiting to hear every good and bad part of our day.   He wants us!

Almighty, Most Holy Father,  my life is Yours.  I place all my good and bad in Your hands.  Take control of all today’s issues.  Let me find joy in everything that will happen.  Let me know Your Presence.  Keep me connected to You in every part of this day.  Make it so!

  1. God gets my attention in a variety of ways … through His Word, through messages at church, through discerning friends, or through those Holy Spirit nudges that move us to act. Thank you for sharing.

    • I know what you mean. We were traveling home on the Ohio Turnpike Saturday evening and God painted a constantly changing sunset for us to enjoy! He is so creative in the ways He gets our attention. Thanks for checking out the Spirit Sisters Blog.

  2. Hi Marie, I find those who continue to moderate comments always seem to have problems with them, both posting and receiving, they can be deleted or sent to spam, Hackers love to play games but sorry in this case it was my mistake as I realised later.

Yes you are right Marie, God does not plan evil for us or does He willingly allow it, but He does indeed work all things for good for His heart Children. But the Scripture tells us to say Christians do evil to bring good out of it is slander Romans 3:8 this is the same in regards to God who is even greater and they also say that many fall away because of suffering and hardship Matthew 13:21-23 and this is not God’s will. He tells us all good things come from Him and also that we are moulded and shaped as we walk in the fruit of The Spirit by His empowering, these put to death our evil flesh nature because good and evil cannot co- exist, nor can evil create in us something good.

We live in a fallen world and we also reap what we sow, this means we bring the curse that is on mankind from Satan on ourselves, as the Lamentations Chapter shows, is it from God yes but only in that He created man to Love 100% the same as He does, so when we do evil we will suffer, does He want this, No of course not, do we want our Loved ones to be hurt, but He has given us like the Angels free will so it does happen because the absence of Love creates evil and we can see this all around us, sin is the absence of Love. Unfortunately Translating from the old Hebrew text does not express this as we understand it, so sadly many are confused, even well know Theologians and Teachers were and some still are today, this is why we need God’s wisdom as Jesus teaches us all Truth.

    Christian Love Anne.

  3. Hi Marie, thanks for sharing your thoughts, Jesus speaks to me in my heart but that can be motivated in differant ways.He is our only Teacher and by The empowering of The Holy Spirit He teaches us all things but like you I’m still learning, Sometimes as I write Jesus is Teaching me something that I did not know but mostly having asked for and received God’s wisdom as I read other peoples messages I’m convicted of Truth or error in them, sometimes it is as I listen to a song or read a book, watch a video, share with Ron or a friend etc

Something that has gotten confused with Translation ….. God never tells us to give thanks for pain and suffering, we don’t have to be Masochists and He is not a Sadist but we give thanks that we are not alone while we go through it and for the eternal rewards if it is persecution for Him, remembering this Truth is what keeps us from sinking.

Lamentations 3: 33 For He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

Isaiah 43:1-3 – Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.”

Jeremiah 29 :11-12 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Christian Love from both of us – Anne.

    • Hi Anne! I wrote a comment and the computer ate it. I so know God wants only what is best for us. The Lamentations verse gave me something to think about. I don’t know believe He ever wants any kind of harm or grief but, I know He lets us experience both to grow us in our faith and to help others. Thanks for, once again, getting me to think. What a blessing you are. Marie
