The Double Edged Sword

DoubleEdgedSword

This has long been one of my favorite passages in the Word.   I am often humbled by the fact that I will ultimately give an account of my life to my Great High Priest, Jesus.  It tells me that I must use the Word to define my life.  But there’s more to it…

Active, in the Greek, is energes.  It is commonly used, in the Bible, as a medical term that means engaged to/in work, effective.  Think about that.  God’s Word is meant to be active, healing medicine for us.  The double-edged sword is a reference to a surgical knife.  In modern terms a scalpel that opens the surface (skin), cuts through to the bone, and reveals all.

And so, God knows all and sees all.  His word is meant to heal us.  It is meant to protect and defend us.  He gave it and breathed it so we would have the answers and ‘remedies’ we need. (2 Timothy 3:16)  His expectations are for us to read it and use it!

Blessings to you and yours!

  1. Like you Marie I believe we very much that we need the written word as God tells us in the Scripture you shared (2 Timothy 3:16) and anyone who reads my comments will agree I believe this wholeheartedly , we need to have God’s confirmation but because of error in Translations we need Jesus’ understanding some read the Bible but do not recognize Him and He warns about doing this, (John 5: 39 – 40) we need His wisdom empowered by The Holy Spirit.(2Corinthians2;9-16)

The Scripture you shared confirms that Jesus is the Living Word and The Way, The Truth and The Life (John 14:6 & 14:17 & 16:13) and in Him there is no lie. We see Him as Sharper than any Sword 9The Truth) when we read in context (Hebrews 4:12-13) without the small particle “it” which was not used in the early Greek, even though the Translation you used included ” It ” and so changes the meaning , this is why I use the K.J.V it is closest to the original that we have in use today. Jesus being The Living Word heals, protects and defends us and will even show us when there is error in Translations.

John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the Light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Revelation 19:12-17 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns; and He had a Name written, that no man knew, but He Himself and He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His Name is called The Word of God. And out of His mouth goeth a sharp sword, ( His Truth ) that with it He should smite the Nations: and He shall rule them with a Rod of iron (The Holy Spirit ) and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. ( against all evil including sin, deception and lies ) And He hath on His vesture ( robe of righteousness ) and on His thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of -Lords (All words in brackets confirmed by other Scripture)

    • John 1:1 is one of the scriptures that makes my heart sing every time I read it, hear it, or speak it. Here’s another of my favorites…All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the man of God is thoroughly equipped for every good work. II Timothy 3:16 I once did a Greek word study on ‘breathed’. The word is exactly translated as breathed and that’s how the writer wanted us to see it. The Living breath of God on every page and in every word of the Bible. Blessings to both of you and much love! Marie
