Calming The Restless Mind

What do you do when you find your mind is roiling? when stress is overtaking? When circumstances are overwhelming?  I have 10 memorized, go to, Bible verses that help calm my restless mind.  Many of you know me well enough to know I’ve memorized many more, but these are the ones I go to most often.

GodPsalm 46:10  Be still and know that I am God!  I have this on a plaque in my office.  It reminds me to sit back, relax, and simply know His presence.

2 Timothy 3:16-17  All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the man of God is thoroughly equipped for every good work.   These words are a reminder that God has ‘breathed’ every word of the Bible to us because He wants us to be thoroughly prepared and ready for His work.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your works acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.  I memorized this in college, at a time when I was making career and life choices.  It has served me well in the many years since when I’ve needed to make decisions.  Trusting Him has always paid off!

jesus-second-comingPsalm 20:7  Some trust in chariots and some trust in horses, but we trust in the Name of the LORD our God.  Years ago, Ray and I were at a dinner theater in the Great Smokey Mountains.  This verse was carved into the mantle of the gigantic fireplace of the building.  It still resonates loudly for me…TRUST IN GOD!

Galatians 4:4  When the fullness of time had come God sent forth His Son…  Everything that happens to me, to you, around this world, is happening at the exact time God wants.  It was planned before time even began and other events have already occurred to make God’s plan work!

thumbnailCA3JX40QEsther 4:4  And who knows that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this.  When I am questioning the plan, whining with a case of the why me’s, I sit back and reflect on this verse and Esther herself.  It reminds me that we do what we have to do because it is the right thing to do.

Luke 1:45  Blessed is she who has believed the LORD will fulfill His promises to her.  Although these words were directed to Mary, the mother of Jesus, they are for each of us who know the Promises and believe they are His Word to all people.

Philippians 4:8 Think on whatever is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, virtuous, praiseworthy and good.  If everything I’m thinking about falls into these categories then my mind is filled with peace and calm and relaxes into thinking about His plan for me.

John 3:17 For God sent forth His Son into the world not to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.  This verse follows the most memorized verse in the Bible…God so love the world…  It’s a reminder that we are so loved that He does not want to condemn us!  From the beginning, He wants us ‘saved’.  He wants us with Him!  He wants us.

My favorite verses of all the Bible are Psalm 23.  It calms me, supports me, heals me, focuses me, and absolutely delights me.

sheepThe LORD is my shepherd I shall not want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures.   He leads me beside still waters.  He restores my soul.  He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.  Yea, though I walk through the dark valleys, I will fear no evil for You are with me.  Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.  You anoint my head with oil.  My cup runs over.  Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

I challenge you to commit at least 10 Scriptures to memory.  The calming effect this will have on your mind, soul, and spirit is almost like being cradled in His arms.

Blessings to you and yours!

Marie

  2. Thank you for the kind words Marie and for your assurance that you believe in The Trinity or Godhead as we call them today, Emanuel, God with us yes He is wonderful. I’m so Thankful your not part of a Cult they don’t believe because they don’t have the Holy Spirit, to deny The Trinity is to deny the Divinity of Jesus.

To be honest I believe most of those who come to our Door and some who have Blogs, do Love God and are seeking to serve Him but have been deceived by their Leadership but this is the same in some of our Churches with other important Truths and it is because they are Trusting in their own fleshy understanding instead of asking for God’s wisdom and empowering and seeking Jesus not man to lead them into all Truth which He does through the empowering of The Holy Spirit. (1Corinthians2:9-16) and The Spirit does not contradict Scripture, add to it or delete it, what He shares with us comes from the Heart of God..

I Love His Church which is of the Heart not any one Denomination, it is World wide and He will bring us all together in Loving Unity and many will be saved including some who are now deceived in Cults.

To believe God does evil or willingly allows evil, is not to Trust Him in our heart and it is why when some are afflicted they turn away from Him and reject Christianity but Thankfully some of these will be saved too because in their hearts they have not rejected Jesus Christ, which is the unforgivable sin, it’s calling The Holy Spirit a liar which is Blaspheming Him, He convicts us of Jesus’ reality and if we reject Jesus in our heart how can we be brought back to repentance if we have fallen into sin, we are rejecting the One who died so we could be forgiven, He is our Advocate, if they do reject Jesus it means they have fallen away into Apostasy and chosen Eternal separation from God. We cannot reach these people they are pigs wallowing in the mud but they are not just lost in sin and confusion for a time which does happen with some, they are in total Eternal unbelief but this was always their chosen Destiny or they would not have fallen away by rejecting Jesus Christ.

    Christian Love Always – Anne.

  3. You said Marie that everything that happens to you, to me, around this world, is happening at the exact time God wants. It was planned before time even began and other events have already occurred to make God’s plan work!

Are you just referring to World events Marie, if not I would like you to think about something but you can be sure others have experienced similar or worse. I was molested by 5 different men from the age of 3 and raped by a Doctor who Aborted my baby when I was not yet 15, my birth Mother violently abused me before she abandoned me when I was 4. My first Husband bashed me even when I was pregnant and I had 7 Children die, 3 were Stillborn the others I lost including the one that was Aborted at almost 5 months gestation .

So did God plan all this for me Marie, the Scriptures tell us to even say Christians do evil to bring good out of it is slander, God will bring good out of all we go through in life but He does not afflict us to do it, Satan controls this World and he hates all Mankind and hate is the absence of Love but all good things come from God not bad, He is Love and Love can do no evil.

Lamentations 3: 33 For He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the Children of men.

Cults teach this deception and those who have been deceived by them but others do too, so be very careful who you are listening to Marie and instead of seeking them for understanding or Trusting in what you think, go to Jesus our Lord and Saviour, He tells us He is our only Teacher (Matthew 23:8-10)and that He will lead us into all Truth. (Colossians 2 :2 -3- 1John 5:20 Thessalonians 5:22)

1John 2:26-28 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any Man teach you but as the same anointing Teacheth you of all things, and is Truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath Taught you, ye shall abide in Him.

Matthew 10:26-28 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in Light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops (KJV)

    • I do not believe, for even a moment, that God chooses any kind of evil for us. But we live in an evil world and there is evil all around us. He truly wants what is best and good for us. Those who have done such evil things to you are not in God’s control but are certainly depending upon their own thoughts and emotions. Extremely selfish people case great harm in this world because their actions are all about their own desires with no though to others. The Christian Believer looks at the world differently and our actions are more ‘outward’. Anne, to set your heart at rest, I am not part of a cult. I worship with a group of the most loving, kind, Bible believing, sin hating, Christians at our local Southern Baptist Church. I love it that you worry about me but please know I am a strong, often tested, Christian. I love my Jesus, His Church, and following His Word and Instruction.

You are such an awesome lady. I can hardly wait to meet you in heaven.

      His Name is Wonderful!

  4. Just in case some forget who Jesus The Living Word is in the Godhead or Trinity as They are called today, both meaning Three in One, I will also share some Scripture with you Marie but if you would like more just let me know and I would also like to ask you a very important question in reference to what you shared with Galatians 4:4 but I will do so in the next comment………

Galatians 4:4 When the fullness of time had come God sent forth His Son……

1 John 5:7 For there are Three that bear record in Heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these Three are One.

Matthew 1:22-23 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a Virgin shall be with Child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His Name EMMANUEL, which being interpreted is, GOD WITH US.

John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the Light of men. And the Light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

John 14:8-11 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing His work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.

Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the Government shall be upon His shoulder: and His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His Government and Peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon His Kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

    Blessings Anne.

  11. Those memorized words will always help us combat the thoughts the enemy would like us to keep in our heads instead. Great reminder of how important it is to bury God’s words in our hearts and minds.
