There is a difference between believing and knowing. I believe that God is who He says He is and that He can do what He says He can do. I know that He has redeemed me through the blood of His precious Son.
Believing begins with trusting what we have been told. Knowing is much deeper. As a relationship grows trust grows with it. It’s like sitting down on a chair. When I sit down in a chair, I instinctively trust that it is there. I can’t see behind me, so technically I have no way of proving that the chair is there until I sit down. But I trust it. I trust that it will hold me.
So how do I know that God is really God, that He really can do all He says, that He redeemed me? That requires a special kind of relationship and that’s the key. I have built a relationship with Him. How? I spend time with Him, in the Word. I talk with Him in prayer. I discuss Him with other believers. I listen for His voice. I watch for His imprint on my life.
Somewhere along the way, something shifts. God stops being something I know about and becomes someone I know and trust. My relationship changes from my faith being simply an idea to a trusting friendship. I may not be able to prove all I know about God, but I know Him, and that makes all the difference.

Marie, I appreciated this post as lately I have been impressed to truly think on the attributes of God. Knowing who He is will lead us to grow in depth of trusting Him. Knowing God –> trusting God –> His peace. Blessings!

Joanne, I was just impressed with the fact that God is growing you to be more like Him in your need to understand His attributes. When this happens to me, I find it is because He wants me to become more like Him.

Yes! It can be challenging though. My flesh wants certainty and stability, a clear path. But my friend Jeni says usually God just lights up the next baby step, and we just have to keep taking the next step even when we can’t see the whole road ahead. I know this is true, but frequent reminders are good because my emotions in the moment can go all wibbly wobbly. 🤗

I have those wibbly, wobbly emotions from time to time!😀 I know, without question, He will carry me through. I like the baby-step advice. I always want to know the end, but God wants to go through the steps to get there. Marie

Yes! Sometimes believing is head knowledge. Facts and logic. But Knowing — that’s certainty in action. Acting on, putting your money where your mouth. Trusting your future and your welfare completely to what you know to be true with no backup plan. It’s where faith stretches, grows and lives. 🤗 Tamara
