Verse of the Year – – 2018

I have been giving a lot of thought to what word will I use to ‘guide’ the year 2018.  I had it narrowed down and even had a specific verse chosen.  I knew what verse but the word of the year was eluding me.  Then it crossed my mind…  No one word this year, use the entire verse.

Now, before I reveal the verse I want to give a bit of the process I used.   First,  I gave some real, prayerful thought to what I wanted to accomplish this year.  How I wanted to grow and become more like my Jesus.  I also thought over the past year and ways I had just started to break through or, yes, even ways I had failed.

I knew I really wanted and needed to work on both words and thoughts.  Now, God has a way of planting the things He wants for us into the normalcy of our days.  (Doesn’t He?)  While reading my Bible I happened to be in Psalms and one verse jumped right off the page at me.  It was precisely what I needed to focus on for the year to come and many more to follow.

I’m sure you can see why it was so hard to choose just one word for the year.  It was much more than that.  I could have chosen WORD or MEDITATION or ACCEPTABLE.  But none of those were enough.  It had to be all of them.  It wasn’t just words or thoughts, every part of my consciousness has to be acceptable to my Jesus.

Big challenge?!  Yes!  I can do all things through Christ!

Achievable? Yes! It may take more than one year.

It would be interesting to know if any of you have chosen a verse for the year.  Be sure to put it in the comments if you have.

Blessings to you and yours!

3 Things …

While at the doctor’s office with my husband this morning I saw this tacked to their bulletin board and it made me think about other sets of 3’s that are true to life.

People will try to get you to do ‘it’ their way.

Here’s a thought about money: All that we can buy is paid for by hours of our lives.

Your past is just that…past.

Integrity in life (not lying or cheating) is really all that matters.  If it’s the right thing pursue it and never, ever give up.

By far the three most important come from Micah 6:8.

Acting justly is quite simple.  Be fair in ALL your dealings with others.

Mercy is responding with compassion.

True humbleness is not thinking less of yourself but thinking more of others.

I would love to see some of your three’s in the comments.

Blessings to you and yours!

Young at Heart

Mentally feeling young + the realities of aging = Contentment

Butch Dean's avatarWordsmith's Desk

The older you get, the more you look back. Some will tell you that looking back is like living in the past. I suppose that can be true for some, but to generalize would be a mistake. Maybe, one has to be standing in those “old” shoes to realize that the past plays a large part in your future.

Memories return to the hearts of those who have walked life’s path for many years. In remembering, one finds the strength to go on, to complete life’s journey. Getting older can be a challenging experience. The thing is, we don’t plan on being that senior and when we get there, there’s a lot of youth still hanging out inside.

Our bodies let us know we are not that “spring chicken” anymore, but our mind says otherwise. Learning to balance this feeling of youth with the reality of aging is the secret…

Life Style Evangelism

I love having coffee or tea with neighbors or friends, don’t you?  Making a batch of cookies and/or sandwiches and calling a few people to come and talk is one of my favorite ways to connect.  I most often do this with women friends, sometimes couples too.  Oh, my, the conversations we’ve had.

This is one of the many ways to share your faith in Jesus without overwhelming those who may not believe yet.  You do not have to be a door knocking, tract placing, street corner shouting evangelizer.  People see Whose you are by what you say, what you wear, your countenance, and so much more.

Have you ever noticed some of the sayings on t-shirts.  They’re everywhere.  That’s certainly a way to let people know what you believe and what you stand for.

Have you considered that the jewelry you wear gives a powerful message to others?  Someone may see what you’re wearing and that will open the door to a rich and meaningful conversation.

The picture on the right is not in my ‘collection’, yet!  It’s a stunning piece that will give many opportunities to share.  It’s part of the incentive gifts for purchasing 5 copies of Holley Gerth’s new book, Fiercehearted.  (Click on the picture and it will take you to the Fiercehearted site.)

Do you have other ways you share your love for the One and Only.  I’d love to hear about them.

Blessings to you and yours!

The Wellness Revelation – Book Review

I am a diet book junkie.  I’ve read, what seems to be, almost every new book on the subject.  When the opportunity came to read The Wellness Revelation I jumped at it.  Alisa Keeton has hit the nail on the head in this book.  The nail? Dieting is more than food.  I’ve read a lot of books about diet and exercise but, this is the first time I’ve read from cover to cover without trying to find the food plan chapter first.  Interestingly, she doesn’t really give a food plan.  A list of foods that are healthy for us, yes.  But not a specific plan.  The same goes for exercise…just do it!

Here are 8 concepts from the book.  (There are many more, but you’ll have to read it yourself to find out.)

  1. A healthy body is not all about the food you put in it.
  2. Wellness encompasses every aspect of our lives.
  3. Health focused goals such as, lower blood pressure, less processed food, controlling sugar intake, are as important (or maybe more so) as pounds lost or miles run.
  4. God created every part of the world we live in, including us.  The way we take care of ourselves, or not, shows how we feel about Him.
  5. We have to be aware that diet, exercise, and a variety of things that seem to be good for our body can also become bondage.  It can kill us if we aren’t careful.
  6. We are accountable and have the total responsibility of keeping these bodies we’ve been given in a healthy state.
  7. There is no good reason to be more or less than who we are.
  8. Prayer and meditation are part of a healthy life-style.

This book is a powerful tool in coming to grips with weight-loss and personal health.  I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to become what God wants us to be in all aspects of our lives.

Blessings to you and yours!

Marie
