Slaying The Debt Dragon Book Review

shopping

Motivating…Easy to read…Inspiring…Profound (in places)…

If you’re ready to “slay the debt dragon” this is the method to choose.  Using personal experience and total commitment to the cause (getting out of over one hundred thousand dollars in personal debt) Cherie Lowe gives a plan and a process that worked for her.  After having read this book it will work for me, too.

Her advice is really quite simple and usable.  First, don’t try to do it alone.  Get your spouse or a really good friend on board.  Second, have a plan, write it down and commit to following it.  Third, celebrate your accomplishments.  Plus so much more.

Mrs. Lowe’s use of scripture is spot on and appropriate for what she’s trying to teach.  In several instances her application of the Word helped the concept take life.

She includes templates and many freebies at her website, Queen of Free.  With all that is offered in this excellent book there is no reason anyone should still be in debt.

If you’ve lost your sense of contentment, forgotten how to depend on God to be Jehovah Jirah (God the Provider), or simply can’t figure out how you got in this situation, this is the book for you.  It will be the best, and smartest, $15 you’ve ever spent.

Strength

bells-flower-658751_640This week’s Tuesday’s at Ten prompt word is strength or strong.  I came across this story and thought how fitting.

On October 15,1997, David Huxley broke his own record at Mascot Airport in Sydney, Australia.  He strapped around his upper torso a harness that was attached to a steel cable 15 yards long.  The other end of the steel cable was attached to the front-wheel strut of a boeing-537006_640747 jetliner that weighed 187 tons.  With his tennis shoes firmly planted on the runway, he leaned forward, pulled with all his might, and was able to get the jetliner rolling down the runway.  He pulled the 747 one hundred yards in one minute and twenty-one seconds. (from 750 Engaging Illustrations compiled by Craig Brian Larson, pg. 62.)

Beyond physical strength as in the story above we have another kind of strength. This strength comes to us from the Lord. The Word tells us that quite clearly in Isaiah 40:31 – – When we trust in Him He will renew our strength like eagles.  I can certainly testify to that verse.  Several times in my life I have had to trust only in Him for the strength I needed.  Through cancer, being hit by a truck while driving a Chevette, a tornado destroying our home, my sister’s massive stroke at age 39, Ray’s (my husband) Traumatic Brain Injury, and …   He has carried me in His strong arms thoughout my life.  His strength is made perfect in my weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Grace upon grace to you and yours!

Top Ten Most Shared Bible Verses

My memory verses

I was quite surprised to see that Christianity Today had researched and compiled a list of the top ten most shared verses of 2014.  According to this article two Bible verses are shared, through social media, around the world every second.  (YouVersion is the statistical base for this list.)

Romans 12:2

Philippians 4:8

Philippians 4:6

Jeremiah 29:11

Matthew 6:33

Philippians 4:7

Proverbs 3:5

Isaiah 41:10

Matthew 6:34

Proverbs 3:6

Does it surprise you that John 3:16 didn’t make the cut?  Remember this is verses shared.  I suggest that this verse is such a basic part of the Believer’s knowledge base that knowing it is like breathing.  We don’t think about it unless we need too. YouVersion did report John 3:16 as the Most Searched Verse of 2014.

As I read through the list I noticed I knew many of these from memory…interesting.  How about you?  Did you consider this a list of already known verses from seeing the book, chapter and verse?

Blessings on blessings to you and yours!

Disclaimer: I was provided a copy of the book, “Rebuilding Civilization on the Bible” by Jay Grimstead and Eugene Calvin Clingman published by Nordskog Publishing for the sole purpose of review.  All comments and critiques are my own.

Finally, finished!  This made me wonder how Christianity has survived for more than 2000 years if so much is misunderstood or wrong with it.  From that comment do not think I am in disagreement with the concepts put forth therein.

At the 500th Anniversary (2017) of Luther’s 95 Theses it is the desire of the authors to convene the International Church Council.  This Council and it’s members will reaffirm the inerrancy of the Bible and will seek to unify all religions that profess belief in Jesus Christ under these principals.  The author’s seem to believe that Christians have moved away from the basic Word and toward a Culture that pretty much says anything goes as long as one is not ‘hurting’ another.

Their treatises and ideas on such areas (and not limited to these few I’m mentioning) as Salvation, The Trinity, Hell, Unity of the Body, Church Discipline, Homosexuality, Human life, Marriage, are spot on and totally within the confines of the Holy Scripture.

I must suggest that one of the most disturbing aspects of this treatise was the authors’ determination that the International Church Council would be able to solve the modern church’s problems if everyone believes and follows these precepts.  It seems to me that when Church Law becomes more important than the Believer, the Church will move backward into a works based religion.  Makes me wonder what we’ll be calling the Modern Pharisees.
