Choices

Psalm 119:11

It is so important that we are memorizing His Word. When we do that we are imprinting on our brain the things we need for life. It brings us closer to God. It protects us from sin. It helps us encourage others.

There’s more to memorizing the Word than repeating it over and over until it is firmly branded on our minds. We need to be meditating on it, discovering it’s meaning, and becoming aware of how it applies to our lives.

This morning I was doing that with the verse above. God had put it in my mind while I was falling asleep last night and I woke up thinking about it. (Has he done that with you, too?) I think He wanted me to discover this truth: If His word is not part of our choices then the choice we’re making is not in line with what He has purposed for our lives.

Let me tell you, I was ‘blown away’ with that thought. How many times have I simply made a choice instead of letting His Words guide me? How many times have you done that? Many times the consequences have been good but sometimes…

That’s why we must have His Word planted deeply in our heart, mind, and soul. Making decisions based on His Word keeps us on solid ground.

Abba, Father, open our hearts to Your Word. Give us great desire to know it so well that each time we face a decision we can call a verse to mind that applies to it.

Sunday Psalms 6

Psalm 6

Heal me, LORD! Forgive me LORD! I am troubled and depressed. I need You, now!

Deliver me from all the evil around me.

I am so tired. I cry all night. I do not understand why so many hate me.

God is in control! I know that He will make my enemies ashamed of what they are doing. He hears my prayers.

The Whole Woman – Book Review

Knowing how to coordinate body, soul, mind, and spirit, can be very challanging. Maintaining a good balance between them is sometimes difficult. However, Kristin Kellen and Julia Higgins have compiled a guide for just that. Using several women’s writings there are many suggestions to live a total life that both nourish and encourage women in stabilizing their busy lives and making them more focused and productive.

Divided into the four sections mentioned above, The Whole Woman, gives many excellent suggestions for living the life God intended as well as reaching out and discipling the women around us. The book discusses the importance of knowing and living God’s Word, keeping our minds healthy and focused, taking care of our bodies, and discipling others.

I am giving this book a score of 5 out of 5. It’s we’ll written and full of usable information. I hope you will learn as much as I have.

Blessings and success to you and yours!

Sunday Psalms 5

Psalm 5

Hear my words, LORD. My King and my GOD. I lift my prayers to You. Sometimes my words are just sounds, yet You still hear my prayers every morning.

You do not allow wicked people to live near You. You hate all who are evil, who think they are better than You. You destroy liars and murderers.

I bow down before You. I worship and adore You. You have chosen me and made the way stright before me. My enemies are lost and cannot find their way. They speak lies and death is in their words. Judge them, LORD. Let their own words convict them of their sin and rebellion against You.

All who live in Your protection will rejoice & sing. You are praised by all who love You. Put Your shield of favor over Your chosen, O LORD!

Beneath The Bending Skies Book Review

Life, from childhood on, is a series of ups and downs, new experiences, old struggles, good and bad memories. ‘What a ride’ as some would say.

That’s what this new book, Beneath The Bending Skies by Jane Kirkpatrick, is all about. It’s the story of Mollie who wanted the respect and support of a wandering, controlling father, who was unable to give it. After her mother dies she is left with people she doesn’t know, then later on with relatives. When things are not going well she is moved to different states. At 14 she opens a school to help with family finances. She is engaged at 16. When her father returns and finds out he breaks it off and moves her far away again. Not all is lost, though, there is more, much more, to Mollie’s life.

As with many (or all) of her books Jane Kirkpatrick bases the story line and her characters on historical events, real people and places. This story comes to life while reading of lives of those who lived during the Gold Rush, the Women’s Suffrage Movement, and the Indian Wars during the Westward Expansion.

I highly recommend this book and hope you will take the time to read this delightful story.
